Daring Fireball & Quartz Composer
In 2013 I spent more time reverse engineering a screen saver tool by Apple than studying in college. But the result was worth it. I figured out how to use Quartz Composer for prototyping fluid interfaces. As a way to communicate this, I made a series of video tutorials on how to recreate Facebook Home with this tool. John Gruber from Daring Fireball blogged about it which sparked a large reaction online, igniting the whole specialty of design prototyping and tooling.
